Aim:
To create a lifestyle magazine of my choice that reflected todays society. I chose BarberLife because it is an up and coming part of culture that not many people are aware of.
Rationale:
The benefits of this project were that people could find out about barber culture through this unique design. I interviewed a talented, young barber and it gave me an insight into what the culture is about. I wanted to create a publication that others could view that would inspire them as much as it inspired me.
Barber culture also involves other aspects of culture including fashion, music and tattoo culture. Throughout the magazine I have tried to include all of these aspects into the design.
The barber that I interviewed used social media sites such as Instagram to upload images of his work, and connect with other barbers across the world. So I began experimenting with adding photographs into a hashtag symbol which I think worked really well. Tagging photographs is a contemporary way of sharing them with other people with the same interests, so I thought that it linked to the subject really well.
